Historic Site Kiusu earthwork burial circles photo: Burial circle No.1
It is a group of communal graves constructed in the latter half of the late JOMON period. The ground was dug in a circle and a circular earthwork was built around it. Grave pits were placed in the circle for burial of the bodies of the deceased. There are 9 burial circles in the area designated as a historic site. The diameter of the largest one is 83m and the height of the embankment is 5m. It is one of the biggest monuments in the JOMON period.
